One of the most exciting things that happens as a result of having a clear school brand, and being consistently true to it, is that our positive brand itself begins to attract people to our school. Our purpose and focus as a school, clearly established and recognized by those who engage with us, spreads through word-of-mouth and draws other like-minded individuals our direction. How do we see that demonstrated?
- Staff members who join us are eager to be part of the brand they’ve experienced, and heavily contribute to growing our ministry even more powerfully.
- New families come seeking to join our school, having learned of the difference in the Lutheran School experience and wanting that for their children and families.
- Supporters from our congregations and community enthusiastically embrace opportunities to give their time, talents, and treasure to the efforts of our school.
It’s exciting when a school is far enough along in understanding and consistently living out the brand that it experiences a “snowball effect,” where everyone involved and everything done gets swept along with the school under the brand umbrella. It’s not hard to act “the Lutheran School way” around such a school; rather, it has become the natural way to do things. A great deal of effort is behind getting a school to this point, but once there, a school truly enjoys some powerful benefits.
One word of caution: What is positive about the Lutheran School brand, well established over the years, should never be taken for granted. What has been done can be undone through careless words, misguided efforts, and poor follow through. Let’s continue to value what we have, and intentionally invest ourselves in keeping “the Lutheran School way” alive and well.
